Introducing the New Ancoats Bass Range

Overview

After years of requests from customers, Ancoats Guitars is finally launching its bass guitar range. The designer emphasizes this wasn't a rushed decision: "I didn't want to rush the process, and I wasn't interested in simply scaling up the guitar designs."

Design Philosophy

Rather than direct copies of existing guitar models, the new collection features three unique yet coherent bass designs that maintain the Ancoats DNA while establishing their own identity. Each model includes distinctive German carves and proportions optimised specifically for bass instruments. The silhouettes remain recognisable to existing Ancoats players, but the basses stand as purposeful instruments rather than modified guitars.

Sound: The B Line Pickup

Every bass includes a custom-designed bladed humbucker developed with Leigh at Green Pickups. The pickup aims to deliver: - Punchy character - Clear definition - Full authority - Versatility across modern and vintage settings

Specifications

Core features include:

  • 32" scale length for balanced low-end presence with comfortable playability

  • 38mm nut offering fast, accessible feel

  • 22 frets providing extended musical range

  • Roasted maple neck with rosewood board for stability and aesthetics

The designer conducted market research and built prototypes, inviting bass players to provide feedback that directly informed final design choices.

Distinctive Details

A custom "BASS" neck plate signals these are purpose-built instruments. German carves combined with edge softening create visual presence while maintaining cohesion with the guitar collection.
