For the past few years, pricing has remained as stable as possible despite rising operational costs. However, after reviewing the numbers and workflow realities of crafting high-end instruments, an adjustment has become necessary.
Key Changes
From 1st February, all custom guitar builds will increase by 20%.
This applies only to custom orders. Stock guitars, exclusive drops, limited runs, and batch-made models maintain their current prices—effectively 20% cheaper than custom-ordered builds.
Additionally, lead times for custom builds are extending to 6 months.
What This Means in Practice
A stock Granada Special costs £1,400. The identical guitar as a custom order—with your chosen colours, neck, hardware, and pickups—will cost £1,680 from February 1st.
"Stock guitars stay the cheaper and faster option. Custom guitars get the extra time, attention and one-to-one work they require."
Why Custom Prices Are Increasing
1. Custom work takes considerably more time
Custom builds involve entirely different workflows: close customer collaboration, individual component sourcing, unique setups and finishing processes, plus extensive test-fitting and detail work.
2. Preparing for a bigger workshop
Ancoats Guitars has outgrown its current space. A larger facility will accommodate dedicated spray and finishing areas, expanded CNC capability, improved production efficiency, better machinery, proper workflow organisation, and future hiring flexibility.
"A larger workshop costs more—rent, equipment, utilities, setup, everything."
3. Custom guitars will never be discounted
Due to the labour and one-off materials involved, custom builds remain at fixed pricing. Stock guitars, however, will continue receiving occasional discounts for end-of-line items and special releases.
Why Lead Times Are Moving to 6 Months
The business has grown significantly, but recent deadline slips indicate the need for more realistic timelines. Six months ensures consistent delivery, maintained quality standards, and every guitar receives deserved attention without compromised craftsmanship.
"This isn't about working slower—it's about working responsibly."
Why Announce This Now?
Early notice allows customers considering custom orders to lock in the current price before the increase on 1st February. If you secure your build slot before that date, your price is protected.
Closing Message
These changes support sustainable growth, continuous guitar improvement, and workshop pride. Questions about custom builds are welcome anytime.
